Our Story
One Machine, One Word Kept, and a Family Trade
DJ Roberts started Roberts Excavations in 2003 on a simple idea: dig it right the first time and the phone keeps ringing. Back then it was one operator and one machine working out of Sterling, CT. Word got around Windham County the way it does in small towns — one clean job at a time.
These days DJ runs the sites alongside his son Trevor, who grew up around the equipment and now handles much of the scheduling and the customer side. The tools have gotten sharper — GPS on the excavators, lasers on the grade — but the way they treat a job hasn’t changed: show up when promised, charge the number that was quoted, and don’t pack up until it’s right.
From foundation digs and site prep to drainage, septic, and land clearing, the work has stayed close to home and close to the ground. That’s the way the Roberts family likes it.

DJ Roberts
Started the company in 2003 and still climbs into the cab on most big digs. Two decades of reading eastern Connecticut soil, ledge, and water means DJ usually knows what’s under a lot before the first bucket.
Second Generation
Trevor Roberts
Grew up on the job sites and now keeps the operation moving — quotes, scheduling, and the day-to-day with customers. If you call about a project, there’s a good chance you’re talking to Trevor.
